Disclosure. AllCreditBuilderTools is an independent directory. Some links are affiliate links — we may earn a commission if you apply. That does not change rankings. The operator also works at Kikoff; Kikoff is not automatically ranked first. Rankings are by cost, bureaus, product type, and who the product is for. Fees, APRs, and bureau lists change. Confirm on the issuer’s site before you apply. This is education, not personal advice, and not a promise that your score will go up.Quick pick- Cheapest revolving tradeline: Kikoff Credit Account Basic at $5/month. Store-only spend. No hard pull.- Best $0 app: Chime Credit Builder — if you already (or will) bank with Chime. No deposit, no interest, reports as a card.- Best if you only pay subscriptions: Grow Credit. Turns Netflix-class bills into a reported line. Membership required.- Do not stack Kikoff + Extra + Grow + Ava. Pick one membership revolving product.
Credit builder “apps” are not a legal category. They are memberships that furnish a tradeline. Some are revolving store lines (Kikoff, Extra). Some are debit-funded Visas (Chime, Current). Some report bills you already pay (Grow, eCredable, Experian Boost). Self is an app too, but the product inside is an installment loan — covered in the loans guide.Watch this. StellarFi has been paused for new signups in 2026 roundups. SeedFi was acquired/rebranded. If an app’s homepage is vague about which bureaus it reports to, it is not ready for your money.Apps compared

Kikoff — best low-cost revolving app
You pay $5, $20–$25, or $35 a month. You get a revolving line you can spend in Kikoff’s catalog of cheap digital products. Kikoff reports the account. There is no interest. There is no hard pull. Late payments can still hurt, and 180 days unpaid can close the line.
Most people should take Basic. A $750 limit with a $10 store purchase paid down is enough to create a revolving tradeline. Premium and Ultimate buy a bigger reported limit, bill reporting, and extras (debt negotiation, ID tools). Those extras are not why you opened a builder.
Kikoff rent reporting is included and goes to Equifax, with optional 24-month back-report for a one-time fee. That is not a substitute for Self’s free 3-bureau rent product. Full writeup: Kikoff Credit Account review.
Chime Credit Builder — best if you will move your checking
No deposit, no interest, no annual fee, no credit check. You move money from Chime checking onto the card and spend it. Chime reports. You cannot spend more than you loaded, which is why this is safer than a regular secured card for people who carry balances.
The catch is the bank switch. If you will not open Chime checking, this product does not exist for you. Do not open Chime and Kikoff and Extra unless you have a specific mix reason.
Grow, Extra, Ava, Kovo
These compete for the same $5–$15/mo revolving slot.
- Grow Credit is the right design if your only “credit” is already going to streaming. You cannot revolver. Membership is the cost.- Extra markets “build credit without a credit card.” Mechanically you still pay a fee for a reported account. Compare fee and bureaus to Kikoff before you add a second membership.- Ava is a bundle: savings-style builder + card + sometimes rent, one fee. Map the included pieces against Self + Kikoff à la carte. Bundles win when you would have bought two products anyway.- Kovo shows up in app roundups for bureau coverage and rewards. Confirm current price and whether spend is general-purpose.
Experian Boost is not an app you pay for — use it anyway
Connect phone, utility, some streaming/rent. Experian may count on-time payments in some Experian scores. Equifax and TransUnion do not move. Do this today. Then still add a real tradeline. Boost is a free extra, not a credit-builder loan.
Who should skip builder apps
- You can get Capital One Platinum Secured (or Discover, if it reopens) and will pay in full — a real card is a better revolving account than a store line.- You only needed installment history — buy Self, not a third revolving app.- You will miss the $5. A 30-day late on a “credit builder” is still a 30-day late.
FAQIs Kikoff legit?Yes. It is a real furnisher with a store-limited line, not a Visa. Legit ≠ best for everyone. If you want to swipe at a grocery store, you want Chime, a secured card, or Self Visa. Can I use Kikoff and Chime together? You can. You usually should not, unless one of them is $0 (Chime) and you want a second tradeline for mix. Two paid revolving memberships is how this category overcharges thin files.Do these apps check credit?Kikoff, Chime, Grow, Extra, Ava typically do not hard-pull. Capital One and Discover do. That is a feature when you would be declined — and a reason the spend network is limited.
